North Berwick - The other home of golf

Often overlooked by many, North Berwick is a golf destination that is well worth your time. The club itself is the 13th oldest in the world and the third oldest that is still using its original fairway layout, only St Andrews and Musselburgh are older. The West Links is simply a great place to play proper links golf.

Set right in the heart of our beloved coastal town, the course has shot up the top 100 lists in recent years, often earmarked as one of the top 20 in the whole world!

It’s not the longest of courses on Scotland’s east coast at only 6,450 yards but it certainly presents a challenge to even the more accomplished among us. The opening hole traces around the Firth of Forth and any wayward tee shots could easily find you on the sandy beach.

A lot of golfers will recognise the “Redan” hole, a blind par 3 that is often copied by more modern courses the world over. The terrain provides a simply jaw-dropping backdrop to this iconic tee shot.

The 18th is often mentioned in the same breath as the last hole of the Old Course in St. Andrews, it follows a similar shape with the green just in front of the clubhouse like all those famous photos you’ve seen before.

North Berwick is well-positioned to explore the East coast of Scotland. Gullane, Muirfield, Dunbar, and other courses are all well within travel distance.

Our accommodation at Gilsland provides the perfect base to rest those legs after a tough 18 holes, our hot tub lodges and superior lodges are all equipped with outdoor tubs, perfect for that post-round relaxation!

We’re not back open yet but we look forward to welcoming you later in the season, please leave your details below to be the first to find out about our exclusive offers.
